WHY A CHECKLIST?

Small things add up. This helps you spot them calmly.

A rug that curls at the edge. A dim landing. A kettle cable trailing across the worktop. None of them seems serious on its own, but together they can make everyday routines harder than they need to be.

The checklist takes you room by room, so nothing gets missed, and helps you decide what to fix first. Most of the changes are quick and low-cost.

HOW IT WORKS

Three simple steps, at your own pace

1

Walk through slowly

Go room by room. Try it once in daylight and once after dark, when lighting gaps show up.

2

Tick honestly

Mark each line "All good" or "Needs action". Doing it for a parent? Do it together and ask what feels awkward.

3

Make a short plan

Copy the "Needs action" items onto the action plan. Start with quick wins, then plan bigger jobs.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE

Plus a guide to free help across the UK

The last pages show where to turn for more support, including:

  • Home assessments from your council's occupational therapy team
  • Free Safe and Well visits from local fire and rescue services
  • Grants towards home adaptations, and trusted UK charities
